This city has so many awesome restaurants! If it were up to me, I’d probably only go to vegetarian, gluten free places, but then I would miss out on all the yummy dishes that other restaurants make to cater to my celiac needs… and I have to skip a lot of my friends’ birthdays and stuff lol.
Anyways, this is a great example of going to a restaurant thinking I wouldn’t be able to eat anything there and being pleasantly surprised.
Yaletown L’Antipasto is a small, funky spot with lots of delicious smelling meats and pastas flowing out of their little kitchen. I figured I would only be able to eat a salad, but turned out they had gluten free pasta and some risotto options. I always love risotto so I ordered one without hesitation. It was AWESOME! Really flavourful and not huge so it left me wanting more. I will say that the price seemed a bit high for only about 1 cup of food, but it really was spectacular.
Whenever I eat out, I make my best effort to read their menu online before I go so I can have an idea of options I may be able to eat. I also like to make reservations using Open Table so I can give their kitchen a heads up about my allergy so they can prepare and because I earn points towards free meals – I think both are good incentives 😉
